Since the winery was founded in 1849, top wines from unique vineyards in Ruppertsberg, Deidesheim and Forst have been maturing in our historic cellar. In 1907, Leopold von Winning, son-in-law of Dr Andreas Deinhard, dedicated himself to the task of producing great wines to do justice to these special sites. Through meticulous work, he raised the wines of the winery to a new level. In addition, he was a founding member of the VDP: the world's most demanding association of top wineries that wanted to work exclusively in a gentle and natural way. Today, the young and "hungry" team around Stephan Attmann pursues the same goals as the visionary Leopold von Winning and is committed to his legacy: The great wine! Intensive and natural work in the vineyards enables us to harvest highly aromatic grapes that can be sensitively vinified in the cellar without having to interfere with the inner structure of the wine. In our dense plantings, for example, the structure of the vineyard is no longer based on machine-oriented and "efficient" management methods. The basic principles of our viticulture arise solely from our demand for quality and tradition. In this way, our vineyards regain the appearance of earlier times! Cloudy and without artificial cooling, our top wines ferment warmly in wood with their natural yeasts. Here, the valuable phenols polymerise and give our wines a deeply staggered, complex aroma. With just one movement, the wine is then bottled, often without filtration. This is our way of expressing world-class sites such as Kirchenstück or Ungeheuer in Forst and the special style of our house in a lasting way. You can hardly accompany wine more respectfully from the vine blossom to the bottle! In all of this, we are not doing anything new, but reviving traditions that were thought to have been forgotten. Discover wines, lively, fine and full of character, as they once were!
