Hol Municipality, where Geilo is located, has a long and proud history as a center for iron production and craftsmanship. For centuries, the area has been renowned for its production of knives, axes, and scythes—essential tools for farming and daily life. This tour offers you a chance to experience these rich traditions while discovering hidden gems that most tourists never see. The tour can be done whole year around on foot or by bike. 

This walk is accessible for everyone in the family, from the little ones in a stroller to the smart ones using a walking stick or a small wheelchair. There are some differences in elevation, so be prepared for a bit of climbing along a cabin road. When you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Hallingskarvet National Park, and, for those who wants, also of Hardangervidda National Park on the other side.

By using the car up the mountain you avoid heavy uphill climbs and challenging downhill driving. Up in Budalen you get a beautiful view over Budalsvatnet and further towards Hallingskarvet National Park. There is a gravel road all the way to the summer mountain lodge Vestreim, a natural resting point for this route. 

A car drive along road number 50 takes you from the quaint mountain village Geilo, situated between two fantastic National Parks: the vast and open Hardangervidda and the majestic, powerful Hallingskarvet, all the way down to the fjords, including the famous Flåm and the lovely Aurlandsvangen
