The Melanchthon town of Bretten has more to offer than just a historic old town. Located in the beautiful Kraichgau, on the edge of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, the surroundings of the town are an ideal hiking area. Follow the DARK GREEN hiking trail markings!

On Monday, after our outing to Landeck Castle, the Kraichgau was once again a topic over the final beer. No long talk: JUST DO IT! So we wanted to implement it today right away. Many in our team have very positive memories of the land of 1000 hills. In the end, it was Martin and I who ventured into the inner Kraichgau. Bretten, as the Melanchthon city, has great significance for our religion and is a center of the hill country. For those interested, please refer to the following website for information. Our drive from Karlsruhe through the Hardtwald took us along Stutenseer Allee. Before that, we took a look inside the newly built Wildparkstadion. No, we did not drive on the lawn, but since the goals were wide open, we drove right up to the lush green. Very impressive, the steep high spectator stands and the neat architecture. After Blankenloch, we passed Stutensee Castle, then went over Staffort, Unter- and Obergrombach to Gondelsheim. Unfortunately, the bike path to Diedelsheim was just under renovation. That required a steep 14% detour. A stop and a few photos in the center of Bretten were a must. We took a break to refresh ourselves in a bakery cafe in Großvillars. The fist city of Knittlingen was the next destination. We were surprised by the many half-timbered buildings in need of renovation in the city center. Much has been nicely renovated, but the renovation backlog is obvious. Hilly and swift, we continued through Kleinvillars and the districts of Neulingen. Soon we reached the Pfinz, which led us to Kleinsteinbach. We decided to ascend over Stupferich to the golf course and through Batzenhof. Simply wonderful the landscape here. From Hohenwettersbach it went downhill towards Ettlingen. In Mörsch at the Naturfreundehaus during the evening drink, we reviewed the day. Not much could be improved. The route and landscape were top-notch, the effort sufficient. Without motor support, we could not have managed this pace. Especially the climbs demand assistance and are an ideal support over such distances. This way, you have much more concentration left for the landscape and that's very good. Sleeping tonight will be no problem. This day was really worth it. Thanks to Martin for the pulling power, inspiration, and motivation as well as the conversations about landscape, people, God & the world. Info: https://www.kraichgau-stromberg.de/
