The last two days of this route traverse on the Europaweg, considered one of the most beautiful trails in the Alps. This route is exposed and tricky, requiring stable footing and a head for heights. The route is also very susceptible to rockfall, and is closed from time to time due to rock slides. It is very important to check conditions of the route in advance and to be prepared to make an unexpected detour at the end of the tour.

The last section of the Walker's Haute Route, from St. Niklaus to Zermatt, has been rerouted. The old route is permanently closed. The new route is very well signed out, but will not be on any maps older than 2021. Our most accurate information for the stretch between St. Niklaus and Europa Hut is included in our individual stage information. Please remember that if there is a conflict with the signage and your navigation app, to follow the signage.
