The National Park

Loch Lomond is the most famous Scottish lake next to Loch Ness, as it is also the largest in the country - a typical ice age lake. It stretches out to West Dunbartonshire and spreads out to offer enough space for water rats. You can take the ferry from Balloch across the whole lake or you can take a kayak and explore the shores at your own pace.

There are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The rolling hills offer the opportunity to explore the landscape with the whole family. The National Park is also a perfect place to learn about nature first hand.

Dumbarton Castle

Dumbarton, a beautiful town at the mouth of the Leven River, is a popular tourist destination because of its history. A visit to Dumbarton Castle will take you back in time. You will need to climb over 500 steps to reach the castle. But the view from above is worth it! It's not without reason that the Brug was built at this location, as the view from there extends as far as Clyde, Loch Lomond and Argyll - ideal for keeping a close eye on everything. In addition to the rewarding view, there is also human history from over 1500 years to explore. The rock on which the castle rests is much older, over 350 million years ago it was an active volcano.

This is a great route covering most of the scenic areas of England Wales and the South of Scotland. Only missing out on the Highlands and Islands of Scotland ! I would suggest this to anyone wishing to avoid the major UK cities.

Although the weather was fine for a couple of days, it was a real bog-fest from Burncrook to Greenside reservoir. But still a nice walk with some great views.

lovely scenery and a great route. The only thing I did find a bit tedious was the route is on a road, so the paths lacked a wee bit of variety underfoot but overall it was an interesting walk and I would do it again.

Great route. Mostly on cycle paths and those stages that are not are on relatively quiet roads. There are few places where its easy to miss the sign for the Cycleway so worth having the app on a phone to room in. Overall though its very easy to follow and a well though-out route. I started from Giffnock and joined/left at Pollock Park. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

I loved this walk. Gradient was gradual and it was pretty all the way. You do meet others as its popular, however well- mannered dogs can be off lead safely. For the cyclists and walkers, its a green route but remember walkers share the same path around the reservoir. The Eden farm complex was impressive too, with great coffee and homemade menu / cakes - this looks great for kids and adults alike to sit and chat once we open up more from Covid restrictions.

A very nice route, thank you! The views and nature are splendid und varied. However, the stretch along/close to the road is quite loud and busy, so I would recommend just walking the quiet nature bit and returning that way.
