The Forest of Pertouli is a unique region, filled with great botanic variety as well as a rich fauna.
The forest of Pertouli, with an area of approximately 33 thousand acres, is owned by the State. It has been granted in 1934 to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, for the purpose of practical training of students of Forestry, research, the original exploitation of the forest and other purposes.
The predominant native specie is the hybrid fir while beech, oaks, maples, European hop-hornbeams, junipers, cedars, silver lindens, willows etc. are sporadically found in small clusters.
Black, forest and white-skinned pine as well as spruce and thuja have been artificially installed.
The fauna of the area is also rich. Deers, hares, wolves, foxes and brown bears are to be found.
One can also see bird species like mountain partridges, snipes, hawks etc. which are a pole of attraction for hunters who hunt in natural conditions within the "Controlled Hunting Area of Koziakas".
