The views from the Maison Vieille are absolutely fantastic, some of the best in the Alps. Whether you are staying the night in their dormitory, or just stopping by for lunch or a drink, this is a wonderful place to visit.
Maison Vieille sits on the Col Checrouit. It can be reached either by a full day hike on foot, or by cable car from Courmayeur. The cable car leaves from Dolonne, just outside of Courmayeur, to Plan Checrouit, where there is a chairlift operating July/August to the pass at Col Checrouit. The food and views are both unforgettable, and this is a great place for a short walk, or to simply pass the time for an afternoon.
We often recommend this as a destination for a free day in Courmayeur, perhaps combined with a hike up nearby Mont Chetif. Gorgeous!
