Cabane des Dix

The Cabane des Dix (2928m) is located near the end of the Val des Dix, behind the Lac des Dix.  It is situated on a little hill amidst a great mountain scenery, with Mont Blanc de Cheilon dominating the mountain scene.  This has always been one of our favorite huts for their unbeatable king-of-the-world location.

We don't actually stop at the Dix hut on many of our Haute Route tours.  It's very high and a bit out of the way on a day that is already quite long.  But strong hikers can visit this as a lunch stop between Prafleuri and Arolla.  Or custom tours can be designed with an overnight stop here.

If you're staying at Dix, they always have nice meals and they are all-you-can-eat.  There is no shower, aside from the brisk “douche panoramique” outside, nor do they provide soap or hand towels.  The water is not potable, but they sell boiled glacier water, as well as bottled water (and a fine selection of Belgian beer).  A sleep sheet is required, so be sure to bring one, as they are not available for rent.  Picnic lunch to-go is available.
