A beautiful viewpoint on the route up to Gornergrat

Just beyond the Riffelseen lakes at Rotenboden, take a short 1 minute detour to the right (if you are heading uphill), towards the edge of the ridge where the full panorama finally comes into view. It is worth it.

The scene across the Gorner glacier is nothing less than stunning, from the brilliant Monte Rosa, the twins Castor and Pollux, the Breithorn, Kleine Matterhorn, to the Matterhorn itself. This is why we come to the Alps! Stop a moment to take it all in and enjoy where you are. Often you can see climbing parties (binoculars help) trekking along the snow and ice on their way to the summits (especially on the Breithorn).
