Deze zelf uitgestippelde wandeling vertrekt vanuit Opstal en is grotendeels (semi-)verhard. Via rustige trage wegen wandel je door een open landschap richting het Buggenhoutbos.
Dit bos bestaat voor 95% uit wintereik en beuk. Het ooit zo uitgestrekte bos van meer dan 1000 hectare kromp in de Middeleeuwen drastisch tot 470 hectare en werd tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog door de bezetter verder leeggekapt tot amper 140 hectare. Dankzij het Agentschap Natuur en Bos werd er opnieuw jong bos aangeplant, waardoor het bos vandaag opnieuw zo’n 200 hectare groot is.
Via kronkelende paadjes wandel je tussen de bomen van dit jonge bos; een plek waar de natuur stilaan weer haar ruimte inneemt.
