Escursioni ad Arucas

Spettacolare escursione costiera con visita a una grotta. Non adatto a persone con vertigini. Scarpe antiscivolo. Visita della grotta a proprio rischio. Torcia necessaria. non andare da soli.

Bellissima escursione costiera, ma non sempre sicura.

Escursione molto facile attraverso il paese. La partenza era alla Rumfabriek

07.10.17 - Prima tappa della nostra traversata di Gran Canaria: Da Las Palmas con l'autobus 105 fino al Cruce de San Felipe. Poi attraverso il Barranco de Azuaje con una deviazione a Firgas. Tappa da facile a media difficoltà. La salita ripida dalla base del Barranco al piccolo ma degno di visita paese di Firgas è la parte più faticosa.

On this magnificent route you walk in the beautiful Barranco de Arucas, it is completely unpolluted, with large cane fields. After passing the Vasco López dam the route proceeds through los Altabacales, one of the few places to see Alcornoques (Cork). Along a pleasant camino the route ascends to the foot of the El Rayo peak in Osorio, then skirting it on the way down to Los Chorros (restaurant). From los Chorros continue behind it, along a path between eucalyptus trees., arriving soon at Las Huertecillas  after several crossings (you have to be attentive) from where the route proceeds  around montaña Firgas along anm open path down to the ditch (where there is a short stretch of road). The Acequia real de Firgas (water tunnel) is beautiful, but in some places it is narrow and can be  a bit awkward to walk along at these points, also several cement tiles are missing from the ceiling in some sectors. At the end of the acequia and after a washing place, there is a small muddy section due to a broken pipe, and then an illegal dump (for me these are the only negative things I found). A great walk if done in a dry period, but surely in a greener season it would be more beautiful.  BE CAREFUL if it rains do not get into the bed of the barranco.

An interesting coastal walk on which I had intended to continue further on the coastal path towards Punta Arucas but the vertiginous symbol shown on the Discovery Map proved all too precise. At that point I turned around and headed back to El Puertillo. This coastal path included in this route has pleasant views towards Las Palmas and is an easy and safe walk. On some sections of the coastal path there are rope guard rails on the seaward side, making the walker feel safe.   This walk includes the salt pans at Las Salinas de Bufadero which, apparantly, have been in production since long before the Spanish conquest of the Canary Islands. El Portillo ityself is a very pleasant town on the north coast of Gran Canaria and easy to get to as it is just off the GC-2 motorway. El Portillo is 65 km from Maspalomas but the drive will only take about 40 minutes as it is all on motorways (GC-1, GC-3 & GC-2).
