Tourism in Olt County revolves around several memorial or ethnographic museums, spiced up with a few churches or monasteries. The active tourists can glide smoothly in a kayak on the Olt river, swim in the Danube, or sunbathe on the river bank. Many cyclists venture on 54A National Road, between Ianca and Gârcov, on the EuroVelo 6 cycle route, the only element that has so far put Olt County on the international tourist map; but few of them also venture upwards, to the heart of the county.
The tourist infrastructure is poorly developed in Olt; however, a couple of tourist attractions might seem like hidden gems. Sometimes, tourists transiting Olt towards more popular tourist destinations in Vâlcea, Gorj, or even Mehedinți discover them. The Sucidava Fortress or the Boian Plain Museum are among these places; a handful of passionate guides try to keep them out of anonymity.
Former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was born in Olt County, in the village of Scornicești. Apart from a typical, very modest peasant house, rarely open to the public, there is nothing left here to remind one of the Oltenia village that, once, lacked absolutely nothing.
