We did most of the Selvaggio Blu earlier this month and wanted to leave an update and information for others which we thought would have helped us. We were lucky with weatherwise and had 4 days of sunshine or cloud cover but no rain. I was sure we were going to freeze in the open at night but frankly I had way too many layers which I didnt end up needing. The GPS track was a lifesaver, thank you. - Water in Cala Goloritze: the spring still had plenty of running water at this time of year, but what might be even more interesting is the fact that there is a SECOND spring a few meters to the left (when facing the cliff) of the obvious one. You need to use a tube to access it (eg from a hydration pack) and stick your arm/head into a crevace in the rock to suck up the first bit but then it will flow like a tap. I will post a picture of the location. - The first abseil: I dont know if it was just us but this took us a very long time to find as we felt quite uncertain where to continue in the very steep terrain. Hopefully this will help you if you are in the same situation. Once you reach the rock face with two holes at the far end look carefully back along the rock face and you will see there is a earthy slope downwards which has been disturbed by people abseiling. There was no sling around any of the trees when we were here but if you find a slim tree you should be able to free the rope well. Be aware that starting the abseil from here will require both ropes, after 15-20m you will see the actual abseil spot (tree with slings) on your right. There is no need to cross over just continue down for another 20m and you will see where the path continues under a rockface. See next point - Bivvy Spot between Abseil 1 and 2: directly after the first abseil there is an excellent sheltered spot to bivvy. We used it as we were unsure of how obvious the 2nd abseil would be. The next good spot after this one is walking distance from the cave with the water dripping from it. (seemed like a very reliable water source). -Bacu Mudaloru: There are very few pointers of were the path goes but basically once you reach the newly formed scree beach you head up the valley for several hundred meters before traversing along the coast. Walk for approx 15 minutes then keep your eyes peeled for a path going up inland, not finding this will cost you about 2-3hrs apparently. (we met a mountain guide at the water drip cave who insisted on showing us the path until you reach the small rock hole to climb through as it was a particularly poorly marked part of the trail- sick of getting lost we happily agreed!) - The rope leading to the 3rd Abseil directly after the 5 star cave has been damaged by rock, be careful. -Water in Cala Sisine: according to the nice guys who helped us hitch hike back to Baunei there is not only a bar in Cala Sisine but also a spring. To future selvaggists have fun, stay safe and pack all your observational skills for route finding!

Thanks for the great GPS tracks, they were really helpful! We did the four day variant of the Selvagio Blue in August 2018. Warm and a lot of mosquito's. In summer at Cala Luna and Cala Sisine the restaurants are open for dinner and breakfast and at Cala Sisine you can hire a tent with mattresses (20 euro pppn). We solved the water problem by renting a boot the day before and put water and foor in the Bacu Madaloru beach and at the beach of Biriola. The last was not a very good plan, because it cost us almost 2 hours extra to pick up the supply. A better option is to bring the supply by car close to Cuile Mancodu (Piddi) or even better ask Escursion Quad Baunei (www.escursionquadbaunei.it, tel 328-7137074) to arrange the supply for you. Tents were not necessary. The first night we slept in the cave, in Piddi there are huts when it will rain and at Cala Sisine you can rent a tent or sleep at the beach (good to check if the guard is there). We did not need many gear. The climbing sections are good assured with cables (no quick draws needed). Only double 50m ropes, harness, rappel gear and some slings are enough. A helmet could be useful (many falling stones the first day!). The climbs are relatively easy (max III climbing needed). Beside the wiki we used the map from Mario Verin and Giulia Castelli (ISBN: 9788898309108) and their waypoint at www.marioverin.it. The map and the waypoints were very important in finding the right route (which is not easy with stones in trees and cairns, we built a lot extra) Remaks day 1: We were dropped by a boot at Cala Golorize (which is in summer tricky because boots are not allowed at the beach), alternatively you could be dropped of at the parking place and walk down (we paid 200 euro from Cala Gonone for 6 persons). The first junction is easy to find with the gpx tracks and waypoints. You follow the track climbing the two sections and end in a mule track with red marks following to the right. Be careful the red marks go down to Cala Mariolu, where you do not want to go! Just follow the crest until the waypoint shows you to decent at the left. You decent and will reach a col with a fence. Pass the col and the fence and go down. Two rappels (one spectacular) will bring you to Bacu Madaloru. We did not stayed at the bivak place but climbed down to the beach (magnificent place, but many mosquito's!). Remarks day 2: Start is difficult to find. Climb the wall directly above the bivi, climb the scree gully, but not too high (about 90 meters above see level, we made some extra cairns). It is delicate to find the route, we all were looking out for stones in trees, cairns and waypoints and found the route. We took the shortcut via Olobizzi which is described by Mario Verin. Remarks day 3: For us it was not easy to find the first rappel. Next time I should investigate the first rappel the day before. Also for day 3 a variant to Cala Sisine over normal roads is possible (about 2 hours from Piddi via Codula Sisine.

4 - 4,5 Liter benötigt man pro Tag.
