The trail follows the route of an old wagon road from the 18th century between Banská Bystrica and Špania Dolina.
The Banská Bystrica Mining Elf´s Nature Trail, “The Copper Route” connects Špania Dolina with Banská Bystrica. It starts in Banská Bystrica near the Sásová housing estate, but you can also go in the opposite direction - from Špania Dolina to Banská Bystrica. The total length of the trail is about 13 km, the elevation about 500 m. An adult can walk the route in 4-5 hours.
The route follows an old wagon road, recorded on a historical cadastral map from 1752, and provides many wonderful views. Along the way, you can visit Chapel Cave and Bat Cave, Vápenná Spring or the archaeological site of Hrádok. A few years ago, research here revealed some significant finds of pottery from the Early Iron Age.
