Turn-by-turn directions
Setzelbach is a recommended starting point. Here a dirt road leads first to the south and then to the west. This takes you to the Karnhof. In order to avoid the road from Setzelbach to Haselstein, hike back a bit along the same path and cross the road at the edge of the forest. The path leads through the Völlmerau past the Stielerhof to the wayside shrine on the Rasdorf - Setzelbach road. Here you are in the immediate vicinity of the former death strip of the inner-German border installations. On the patrol road built for border control drives by GDR military vehicles, you walk along the Hessian-Thuringian border to the stone cross on the Rasdorf—Setzelbach road. On the northern outskirts, the path leads to the Setzelbach cemetery with its particularly beautifully designed stone cross. Then you hike to the wayside shrine of St. Wendelinus in Setzelbach and then back to the starting point. The hiking guide can be downloaded here as a GPX code.
