Ingenious but technically demanding trails lead past the pilgrimage church Heiligkreuz-Hospiz below the mighty west face of the Heiligkreuzkofel into the valley. A stunning tour in terms of riding fun and scenic impressions!

The tour takes us initially on asphalt roads, later on gravel paths with a unique landscape across the Armentara meadows at the foot of the Heiligkreuzkofel. Before we can enjoy one of the best trails in the Dolomites, a strenuous carrying passage before the Heiligkreuz hospice demands a lot of strength. Then it's flowing to the hospice and down to St. Kassian on a fantastic, but not easy trail. Good cycling technique and consideration for hikers making the pilgrimage to the pilgrimage church are indispensable here The visit to the church is also recommended for every mountain biker.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the tourist information office in Stern/La Villa we first take the Valparola pass road. We soon leave this and ride mainly on gravel roads via the hamlets of Sottrù, Oies, Valgiarei and Arciara to Furnacia. Here, at the car park above the village, a gravel road begins that leads us across the Armentara meadows in the direction of the Holy Cross Hospice (Hospiz Dla Crusc). A trail branches off below the impressive rock walls of the Zehner. At the beginning, this trail is still rideable for experienced mountain bikers, but then you have to push or carry the bike before the last stretch to the hospice becomes flowy. After a leisurely stop and a visit to the pilgrimage church, we follow trail no. 15 on one of the best Dolomite trails down to St. Kassian. Here we ride briefly on the Valparola pass road in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo, but soon turn onto a gravel path that leads us comfortably down to La Villa along the river.

Hallo Wolfram,
