Ágasvár lookout
You can explore the peak along a loop trail from Mátraszentistván that branches off from the Blue (K) Trail at Newton-szikla. Follow the Blue ▲ (K▲) Trail, which takes you directly to the peak or continue along the Blue (K) Trail until the hikers’ lodge of Ágasvár and take the Blue ▲ (K▲) only there. The latter route is a much steeper hike.
The higher peak of Ágasvár provides an obstructed view over the area, however, continuing southwest to the other peak you can enjoy a majestic view from the other peak.
Past the Mongol Invasion a castle was built here, which was demolished probably by the Turkish. Although nothing is left of it researchers could locate the site of the walls.
As part of the landscape the closest settlement is Bátonyterenye with the Maconka reservoir nearby. You can see the range of Karancs-Medves and in clear weather, even the range of High Tatras in the distance.
Beware of steep slope between the peak and the hikers’ lodge (Foton Meadow).
