Der Bau der Diemelsee-Staumauer wurde 1905 beschlossen und im Jahre 1912 begonnen.Bedingt durch den 1. Weltkrieg musste die Baumaßnahme unterbrochen werden und konnte erst 1924 beendet werden.

The Lichtturm (light tower) project A fortified tower from the 13th century threatened to slowly disintegrate. While it might have been stable externally, it was eroding on the inside, and in such a state, the tower could not be open for access in just a few generations’ time. An important piece of cultural heritage of the town of Arnsberg will now be retained, however. This was only possible with a change of use, combined with a new and interesting function.In 2008, the idea emerged of integrating an accessiblecamera obscura into the tower.
